Dance

WALT follow a sequence of steps when dancing and to be patient when teaching the year 7s.
This shows that I can teach people the steps to a dance and that we are preparing for formal.
I have been working on making sure my dance partner (year 7) does each move correctly.
My next step is to do The Rock and Roll Reel without talking.

Geometry

Our whole class got given a maths booklet about geometry. Our goal is to do two pages each week for S.D.L. This piece of work shows that I can figure out how far I need to turn a shape for it to look the same. My next step is to complete the maths sheet without taking too long.

T3 Reflection

The 3 things I think I have done well in term 3 are Koru Games, getting my work done and contributing to group discussions. In Koru Games I tried my best and supported my team when I was subbed. I always completed SDL or any other work and complete it to a high standard. In group discussions I try to think of and share my ideas to the class. I think I could improve on ignoring others when they try talk to me during work time, keeping my handwriting neater and not talking on the mat.

Koru Games 2015

Over the last 3 days I played for the Football A team at Koru Games. I really enjoyed the tournament because we played as a team and we had fun while trying to win. Thinking back to the beginning of the year, I really improved because about 50% of people i tackled and if i didn't I chased them down the sideline pressuring them and forcing them to make a mistake or cross it giving Finn or Tom the ball. I also think I improved on marking, clearances, jockeying, passing and through balls. Something I will remember are the fun times we had and how happy we all were when Finn saved a couple penalties and we managed to come 6th.

Science

In science Jake, Azz and I did some experiments with baking soda, vinegar, citric acid and water. Our goal was to make things bubble and fizz. One of the experiments we did we needed to make some black currents go up and down in the vinegar. Ours did that and just a little more. It instantly started rising and overflowed, spilling all over the table and floor. My next step is to make sure our experiments don't overflow.

Reading

WALT find tge main ideas in a  factual text. In reading we read about detectives and how to identify clues. We also read about the steps and procedure to find clues. My next step is to identify how to made what they were saying appear in pictures.

Koru Games Practice

On Wednesdays we do koru games practice. We do the A team versus the B team. I am in the A football team. Our goal was to get in a lot of practices before the main event because last year we only got a couple practices in.

Learner Lisence

I have recently moved to mobile learner lisence and my goal is to stay there for the rest of the term. I think I will be able to stay for the term and possibly get there next term too.

Science

In science we did experiments about  soluble and insoluble things. We also did a test to see if things were acids or alkalis. We used cabbage juice which showed if a thing was an acid (pink) or alkali (green) by changing colour.

Writing

In writing I'm writing and argument about why school is over rated. I included stuff about the subjects the length of school and some solutions.

Maths

In maths I have been doing powers. They are really easy. Sometimes it just takes a while to work out but I can get the right answer.

Reading

I read about colour-scapes and cromatography. I learnt that if you put a dot on a piece of paper then put it in water and you can find what colour that colour is made from.

Learner Lisence Goals

My goal is to get to mobile learner lisence. Mobile learner lisence means we can work anywhere in the school instead of the class. I will do that by staying on task and not talking to people when they try to distract me.

Maths Goal

In maths my goals is to learn how to solve simple problems involving exponents (powers). I think that it will be easy but will take a bit of working out. It might get harder when it gets to higher numbers though.

Maths

In maths I have been doing perimeter, area and trigonometry/pythagoras. I think I have improved a lot since last term

Writing Goals

In writing we have set writing goals. We had to have a punctuation goal and another goal. My punctuation goal is to use advanced punctuation and my other goal is to use long and short sentences for effect.

Reading

In reading I have been learning about polychaetes (poly-keets). I learnt about several different marine worms like tube worms, lug worms and several more. We then got feedback about our work.

Maori

In Maori we are learning to do the weather forecast in Maori. We used a poster of New Zealand and pointed to a place when we said a places name.

Reading

In reading a few weeks ago I read a story about keeping Kiwi safe in a sanctuary in the middle of Welington. We then had to draw the fence and all the parts too like the top hat to stop climbers and the bottom part to stop diggers. We also had to have good measurements so the top hat was a good size in proportion to the fence height.

Measurement

In maths I have been learning how to do pythagoras and trigonometry. I have learnt how to find the length of one of the sides from a shape.

Learning Licenses

In room 26 we have learning licenses.  There are four licenses, Mobile, Independent, Regulated and Teacher. Mobile means you can go anywhere in the school to learn. Independent means you can work anywhere in the class. Regulated means you can work anywhere but Mr Brown can choose if he thinks your not working well. Teacher means you have to be work next to them. I am on Independent because sometimes I get distracted but not too often

Career Board

In writing we have been doing writing about our chosen career and made a presentation board. Me and Tom did a career board together since we could only use half a board each.

Peer Mediation

Today I did peer mediation and we had one problem but it was only a small problem. Four people took someone's cricket bat and wouldn't give it back. It was easy to solve and all I had to do was give the cricket bat to the other guy and tell them that he was in charge since it was his.

Wet Day Monitor

On Friday Azriel and I volunteered to go to room 12 as wet day monitors. We didn't see anything happen and all the kids were playing nice. Some of the kids were playing chess and the rest were drawing or playing twister. Azriel and I watched the people drawing and playing chess while the other monitors were watching twister.

Maths

In maths we have been identifying our goals for measurement. Some of my goals are find length in right angle triangles (scale drawing/pythahoris/trig ratio) and another is find value of angles.

Reading

In reading we have done an assessment test about the goal we have been learning. Mine is identity the main ideas in a text. We had to read a story and identify why moving to the city is hard to get used to and why you get used to it.

Peer Mediation

Today I had peer mediation. Me and Levi were in the middle of a football game and if we left the teams would be unbalanced so people told us not to leave but we did. We only had one problem and that was about 2 people who had stolen someone's ball but that was easy to solve. All we had to do was say that it was his ball and he took it from home so he is in charge.

Writing

In writing we are planning out our careers board. We have to write why we want to do the job, what it is, the pay rate, how our dispositions will help us, what subjects we will need to study and the job availability.

Librarian

Today I did librarian and I was on shelving duty. On shelving duty we have to put the books that have been returned that day on the shelve. We got to read after that because we put the books away and there was nothing left to do.

Maths

In maths I have been doing independent math which is different to what most of the class has been doing. We had to identify our own goals and then research them and make an explain everything video on how to do it.

Reading

WALT identify main ideas in a text For reading we do a prediction sheet then a vocab sheet. We then do a summary sheet and have a teacher session. We also have must dos. They are things like punctuation sheet and an activity about something in the would like the world's highest and lowest glass bridge.

Electrician Writing

In writing I am doing an explanation about the pathway to being an electrician. We are going to make a board and present our writing and some stuff about our chosen career. I have just finished it and I think I'm doing well.

Peer Mediation

Today I did peer mediation with Levi. We had no problems except we had to stop kids from kicking basketballs. We also had to check of someone was hurt because a football hit their head.

Pals

Today Jacob, Joseph, Taylor and I set up a pals game. We planned what game we were going to play at the start of the day and we decided octopus. We didn't need mugh equipment other than cones so we just grabbed some out of the pals gear bin. We tried to get people to come and play for about 10 minutes and no one came. We then proceeded to wait for 5 minutes and still no one came. We decided to pack up the equipment and put it away.

Peer Mediation

Today I did peer Mediation. I got the gear that we needed (IPad, green jacket and the rules card) and I found Levi on the field so I gave him some of the gear. We had no problems today, and it looked like everyone was having fun. We walked around the field about 4 times.

Pals

Today I did pals with Joseph and Jacob and we played octopus. For about 30 seconds we had no one then about 30 people ran over to play and it was really successful. We played octopus. We had about 30 people so we made 4 people in. Sometimes the kids got bored because they had been tagged so we started a new round.

Being a Role Model to Kakano Students

Today at morning tea Azriel and I played football with the younger students. Me and Azriel were playing together and some kakano students came to watch and then we invited them to play with us.

Peer Mediation

Today I had peer mediation and luckily there were no problems we had to sort out. We walked around the field and everyone seemed like they were having fun and weren't arguing. We saw one group who were kicking a basketball so we had to give them a football and take away the basketball

Today Levi and I sorted out two problems. One of them was two people fighting over who was batting next in a game of cricket and everyone was on one persons side so that made it easier to see who was lying. The other problem was some year twos who were fighting over whos turn it was to kick the ball and surprisingly they were more cooperative than the year fours which made it much easier to help.

Big Buddy Program

Today all the year eights taught the new entrance kids board games, puzzles and connecting pieces to make a track for marbles. We had to go to room 17 or 16 and find our buddy to teach them a game. We did this for around half an hour. It was fun to play games with them and teach them new skills and they seemed to enjoy learning the games.

Big Buddy Program

Today as part of the big buddy program I helped Paige (new entrant) in the garden by, digging up plants, peeling zucchini's and picking plants like tomatoes. They were then used to make zoodles with tomatoes and pesto for morning tea. Then in the afternoon Paige and her friends played duck, duck, goose with their big buddies. I enjoyed being a role model and I think the younger students enjoyed trying new things.

Helping Out Around The School

This morning I helped Mrs Wood set up garden to table by putting out the ingredients and equipment with the tables. I did it with some others and after we finished we got a community tick.

Role Model to Younger Students

I looked after one of the year fours at the Oaklands swimming sports event as a buddy/role model. My duty was to sit with him for the day to ensure he showed the Oaklands School care values/dispositions, and to be there if he needed help with anything. I demonstrated leadership skills when he tried to take someones house point stick by reminding him one of the school rules:look after/respect other peoples property.

Peer Mediation

On Tuesday me and Levi had peer mediation. My friends wanted me to play football with them because they needed a keeper but I told them I had peer mediation. We had to stop some kakanos from pulling leaves off a tree so we explained to them that we need to respect the schools property. They then realised they shouldn't have done it so they stopped.

Role Model to Younger Students/Kauri Team Events

On Friday we did tabloid sports and me Nick Danny and Rakai went to a group which had Kakano students in it and we had to be role models andshow them how to do things and what do. SOme of the activities we did were hurdles putting a tennis ball on a spoon and seeing how long we could walk without it falling off and also carrying people that were holding things of water and trying to get them to the other bucket.

Peer Mediation

On Tuesday after tech Levi and I had peer mediation and we ran into some people who pushed us to the limits. They said they got into a fight. One of them was being nice, answering our questions and listening, while the other wasn't as easy to talk to. He wasn't listening and telling us to go away. We figured he was probably the one lying because they had completly different storys and he seemed fine while the other was hurt. In the end we got them to say sorry and to shake on it.
